Six additional Caesar self-propelled howitzers are already on their way to Ukraine, said French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna, speaking at a meeting of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defense and Armed Forces of the French Senate.
The estimated date of arrival of the weapon on the territory of Ukraine is not reported for security reasons. Currently, Ukrainian artillerymen use 12 such howitzers.
French President Emmanuel Macron promised this additional batch of Caesar self-propelled howitzers on June 16, during an official visit to Ukraine.
Since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, in addition to howitzers, France has supplied Ukraine with Milan anti-tank missiles and Mistral portable anti-aircraft missile systems.
In late June, French Defense Minister Sébastien Lecornu said France also intended to send a "significant number" of armored personnel carriers.
