In 2016 Toyota redeemed Louisiana resident Victor Sheppard owned a 2007 Tundra pickup truck with 1 million miles (1.6 million kilometers) and in return gave a new car of the same model. Now the company has spoken about the fate of the millionaire pickup truck.
The former car of Victor Sheppard was taken to the factory in San Antonio and carefully examined. Toyota chief engineer Mike Swiers said that to his surprise, almost the only broken part of the car interior was the sun visor mount. In addition, the upholstery of the driver's seat was slightly worn out, although the filler and the frame of the seat did not sag.
There were also no problems with the engine or transmission, and the only part of the truck with serious damage was the loading platform. Which was quite natural, since Victor Sheppard had been transporting heavy equipment for the oil and gas industry there for nine years.
Therefore, in the new generation, the pickup platform was additionally reinforced with a lighter and more durable composite material. She was tested as in commercials - they threw bricks and cinder blocks, and also transported a V8 engine there. With a payload capacity of 1,940 pounds (880 kg), the compartment remained undamaged.
The new Toyota Tundra has been on sale in the US since 2021. The pickup truck is available with a 3.4-liter V6 petrol engine with 394 hp, which is also installed in the Toyota Land Cruiser 300. A hybrid version with 443 hp is also offered.
