The ID.4 was the first American-made all-electric Volkswagen car. The compact SUV was launched in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

The Volkswagen ID.4 is Volkswagen Group's most popular all-electric model, with 190,000 units delivered to customers worldwide since its launch in 2021. Until recently, ID.4 was produced only in Germany and China, but now the geography of production has also expanded to the United States.

Initially, the US-built ID.4 will be available in both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive with an 82kWh battery pack. In addition, a rear-wheel drive version with a 62 kWh battery will start production later in 2022 at a more affordable price.

The Volkswagen ID.4 also has a host of American-made components, ranging from steel from Alabama and Ohio to interior parts made in Indiana and South Carolina and electronics from Kentucky and North Carolina. Batteries for the electric vehicle are supplied by SK Innovation in Georgia.
