Video recording of the M270 MLRS salvo in combat conditions published on the page of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valeriy Zaluzhny on Facebook.
Valery Zaluzhny thanked foreign partners for their unwavering support of Ukraine in the war against the occupying forces of Russia.
Before launching guided missiles, Ukrainian artillerymen wrote on the ammunition the names of Ukrainian cities shelled by Russia. As well as the names of those who died during this unprovoked war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine.
Ukrainian authorities announced the arrival of the first copies of the M270 MLRS on 15 July. Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov then said that the M270 would be a good company for HIMARS on the battlefield.
The UK promised to transfer M270 and M31A1 ammunition to them from its own stocks. Such shells are capable of hitting targets with high accuracy at a distance of up to 80 kilometers.
Ukrainian gunners are trained to operate the M270 in the UK.
In addition, the Norwegian government announced at the end of June that it would transfer three copies of the M270 from its own stocks to the UK to compensate for the MLRS that the British are sending to the Ukrainians.
The M270 is a multiple launch rocket system developed by the American company Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control in 1983. The launcher is mounted on the tracked base of the M2 Bradley infantry fighting vehicle.
It uses interchangeable sets of launch systems unified with the HIMARS wheeled MLRS. These can be two sets of 12 227 mm rounds or two ATACAMS missile launchers with a maximum range of 300 km. The M270 is not as fast as the HIMARS wheeled vehicle, but it carries twice as much ammunition.
