Already a middle-aged, but simple and reliable SUV lasted an impressive 24 years on the assembly line, and resigned due to tougher environmental requirements.

The third generation Suzuki Jimny debuted in 1998 and lasted on the global market until 2018, when the production of the fourth generation car started in Japan. Nevertheless, the old model continued to be produced at the MMC Automotores plant in Catalao, Brazil, and only now this SUV has finally been retired.

The previous Jimny could have continued to be sold in Brazil as a cheaper alternative to the fourth generation model. However, environmental regulations have tightened, and upgrading the 1.3-liter engine to the new requirements, according to Suzuki, was not economically feasible.

Brazilian Suzuki dealers still have some stock of unsold third-generation 2022 Jimnys priced between R$112,000 and R$138,000 ($22,000-27,000). For comparison, for a modern Jimny Sierra imported from Japan with a 1.5L engine, they ask from 157 to 180 thousand reais (30.7 - 35.2 thousand dollars).
