The new Dodge Hornet turned out to be a twin of the Alfa Romeo Tonale with minimal design differences. It will have a regular petrol version and an economical Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) modification.

Featured in Dodge's "Most Powerful, Fastest Compact SUV Under $30,000" headline, this is the base Dodge Hornet GT with a 2.0-liter turbo engine and a nine-speed automatic transmission. Engine power reaches 269 hp and torque - 400 Nm. In sport mode, this car accelerates from 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) at MINI Cooper S levels in 6.5 seconds.

The top Dodge Hornet R/T is a plug-in hybrid (PHEV). Under the hood, such a car has a 1.3-liter gasoline turbo engine connected to a six-speed automatic, and an electric motor is installed on the rear axle, which is powered by a 15.5 kWh lithium-ion battery. The total peak power of the system is 289 hp, the torque is 519 Nm, the range in electric mode is 50 km.

The PHEV version of the Hornet has a PowerShot feature that adds 25 hp for 15 seconds on a hard start. When activated from 0 to 60 mph, the car accelerates in 5.1 seconds instead of the standard 6.1 seconds.

Both powerplants are borrowed from Alfa Romeo Tonale, as is the independent suspension, Koni dampers and all-wheel drive system. However, the PowerShot feature is only available on Dodge vehicles.

The Dodge Hornet R/T comes stock with 18-inch Graphite Gray wheels, Brembo front four-piston brake calipers and dual exhausts. A paid Track Pack will add 20-inch wheels, stiffer shock absorbers and original decor.
