The 2022 Road Travel Index ranks 33 countries based on 24 unique factors including environment, attractions, comfort, cost, safety, and more. Particular attention this year is paid to fuel prices due to global inflation, as well as the development of campsites, which have become increasingly popular in recent times.
Countries with a large number of natural and cultural sites, low fuel prices, a large number of hotels and car rental companies, a good choice of campsites and quality roads received the maximum points.

Germany came out on top this year in large part due to its high proportion of UNESCO heritage sites compared to other countries. There are also few car accidents, many electric vehicle charging stations, many public toilets, and a strong camping industry.
Spain took second place largely due to excellent weather at any time of the year. However, the country also has quality roads, low levels of pollution, many UNESCO heritage sites and natural attractions.
Lithuania won the bronze medal. This small Baltic country scores highly on many price factors, including the cost of parking, hotels, and car rentals. In addition, the direction of camping is developed in Lithuania.
