The Tesla Model Y recently received a 5-star safety rating from the European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP). According to this assessment, the Model Y earned the highest Overall Score compared to any other vehicle that has been tested under Euro NCAP's newest, most stringent test protocol. This was based on an evaluation of Model Y's ability to protect adults, children and vulnerable road users like cyclists and pedestrians. Another important factor they looked at were the safety assistance features included in the car.
In addition to its best-in-class performance, Model Y also received an excellent score of 97% in the Adult Occupant Protection category. This score is determined by frontal, side and rear whiplash tests along with other safety attributes such as rescue, extrication and post-crash safety.
The Model Y received a top score of 98 percent from Euro NCAP in the Safety Assist category. This achievement was possible due to Tesla Vision, camera vision and neural net processing system that is now standard on all Tesla cars delivered in North America and Europe. As Tesla mentioned, "many people did not think it was possible without using radar to achieve a score like this".
Automatic Emergency Braking has shown drastic improvements in recent years, especially during vehicle turning-across-path scenarios and when reversing with vulnerable road users. Furthermore, Model Y scored full points in the Lane Support System category. Lane Support Systems play a big role in reducing accidental road departures, which is Euro NCAP's main focus to prevent single vehicle and frontal crashes.
