The V32 catamaran from Vision Marine and Hellcat Powerboats proved itself at the Lake of the Ozarks, setting a new standard for electrically powered watercrafts.

A new electric boat V32, designed for top speed and power, set a world record at the Lake of the Ozarks shootout, a charity powerboat racing event that took place at the end of August.

V32 took to the water with acclaimed powerboat racing driver Shaun Torrente at the helm. In powering through the 100-mph barrier and onward to a top speed of 109 mph (175 km/h), the V32 has surpassed the previous speed record for an electric boat of 88 mph (142.6 (km/h), set over 1 km (0.62 miles) by Jaguar Vector Racing in 2018.

Last year, Vision Marine started receiving reservations for the E-Motion 180E electric outboard motor. This would offer boaters a quieter way to ride across the water without losing power. This product is billed as being the world's most powerful electric outboard with 180 hp and 288 lb-ft (390 Nm) of torque. Miami-based outfit Hellkat Powerboats snatched this opportunity up with the goal of building the powerful electric boat.

The collaboration between Hellcat and Vision Marine resulted in the construction of the world's fastest electric boat V32. It's an all-electric conversion of Hellkat's existing 32-foot (9.8-meter) Fulgura 1 Super-Sport wide body catamaran, but it has a hull specifically engineered to house battery banks large enough to drive two E-motion 180E motors at the backend.

"It has been an amazing experience to push the boundaries of what people thought was impossible," said Torrente. "In the past two days, we proved that the limits of electric propulsion are only in the minds of those that have not followed Vision Marine and our project. With this result, they cannot pretend we are not here anymore."

The V32 has set a new standard for electric propulsion, proving that it is possible to reach high speeds without using fossil fuels. This is an important step in the move away from gas-powered boats, and Hellcat and Vision Marine are leading the way in this transition.
