The Tiguan, Volkswagen's extremely popular compact crossover, is currently in development for its third generation- slated to arrive by 2023. Recently, the production body was spotted for the first time, and based on those spy photos an independent artist from Kolesa site has created a rendering of the future model.
The overall design is a mix of Golf and ID.4 cues, both blatantly noticeable on the prototype. The crossover sits lower to the ground and has a more rakish windshield than its predecessor. Up front, a wide grille with horizontal bars and slim headlights give the crossover a sporty look closely related to what we've seen on the latest Golf generations. The resemblance is even more striking around back where the taillights appear identical to those of the hatchback.
It's unclear what the interior will look like at this point, but recent spy shots revealed that the 2024 Tiguan will have an ID.4-like setup with a small digital instrument cluster and the infotainment touchscreen flush with the dashboard. It's unknown whether VW is planning two- or three-row versions, but given that it has smaller offerings like the T-Cross, Taigo, Taos, and T-Roc a jump in size makes sense.
2022 Volkswagen Tiguan (US)
The third-generation model is expected to be the last one to employ combustion motors, with the improved version utilizing the cleanest ICEs available from the VW Group. Because of this, these are most likely intended to fulfill Euro 7 standards set to take effect in the next few years. The eHybrid variant is probably going to be updated in order to unlock additional electric miles, and we're hoping there will be a high-performance R version as well. For what it's worth, the Tiguan has already been confirmed for more power in the US market but won't get an "R" suffix.
