The ride-sharing company plans to replace its fleet of vehicles with electric cars in order to reduce emissions and improve the overall customer experience.

By 2030, Uber wants all its vehicles in its fleet to be electric-if a driver does not have an EV by then, they will not be allowed on the platform, CEO of Uber Dara Khosrowshahi told CBS News

So far, Uber has plans to electrify throughout the decade in the U.S., Canada and Europe. "If we're doing our job we're gonna be all-electric," said the CEO when asked if ICE-powered vehicles would still be allowed on the platform.

Given that only 25,000 electric vehicles are on the platform out of an estimated one million drivers, the company has a lot of ground to cover to make the switch. Part of Khosrowshahi's plan includes doubling the amount of EVs available by 2023, while allocating $800 million to help offset the higher initial purchase costs of an EV over an ICE vehicle.

Uber pays extra to EV drivers for every trip they complete, as well as discounts on charging. In addition, Uber has formed a partnership with Hertz to enable Tesla rental by drivers for $334/week.
