The iconic Acura NSX sports car could be reborn as an EV

The production cycle of the second-generation Acura NSX has come to an end, and Honda Motor is already thinking about how to continue the family tree of this legendary model in the era of electric cars.

Jon Ikeda, vice president and Acura Brand Officer at American Honda Motor, told Nikkei Asia magazine about the prospects for the third-generation Acura NSX: "I would bet on it," adding that "it's going to be electric."

Honda's VP went on to say the performance machine without a combustion engine "won't be just about straight lines." He also acknowledged it's not up to him to decide the NSX's comeback, suggesting that is likely going to be the responsibility of Honda President and CEO Toshihiro Mibe.

Acura has not yet officially confirmed an all-electric NSX, but it may arrive as early as 2026, according to people familiar with the company's plans. Most likely, the electric sports car will be based on the new original Honda e:Architecture platform.

Acura bid farewell to the second-generation NSX in April with the unveiling of a $169,500 Type S epilogue limited to just 350 cars.
