The new Renault 4 is set to be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show on October 17th. An electric crossover will be a modern interpretation of the original Renault 4, which was first introduced in 1961 and went on to become one of the most popular cars in Europe.

The concept version of the electric R5 was presented over a year and a half ago, and now it is the R4's turn. While the R5 Prototype is unmistakably a contemporary Renault 5, the new Renault 4 seems to deviate a bit further from its widely known inspiration. The new 4 will have a retro look, but with a few modern touches.

In two new teaser images, we see that while the new Renault 4 takes elements from the classic R4, it also creates its own path. The nose appears familiar, and on the C-pillar, we see an illuminated frame that resembles the third side window of the old R4. The taillights, similar to before, have three "floors". Although, the Renault 4's proportions are noticeably different from those of the original car. The roof rack, meanwhile, emphasizes that this will be a more adventurously dressed brother of the new R5.

The original Renault 4 was only 3,663 millimeters (144.2 inches) long, but it appears that its current-day equivalent will be considerably longer. The new R4 is on the same CMF-B EV base as the R5, meaning it has similar technology. On October 17, we'll get to see the study model in its entirety. The production version is likely to be released no earlier than 2024. In that year, the new Renault 5 will also appear.
