In May, Toyota introduced the US-spec 2023 Highlander with a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine. However, at the time, it avoided discussing pricing specifics. The figures are now out.

If you're interested in the front-wheel drive Toyota Highlander Turbo, be aware that it starts at $36,420. You'll need to save up at the very least $38,020 for an all-wheel drive car - not including destination charges.

2023 Toyota Highlander prices

The 2.4-liter turbo engine makes 265 horsepower and 310 lb-ft (422 Nm) of torque, which is 30 ponies more but 46 lb-ft (62 Nm) less than the previous 3.5-liter V6 without Turbo. Although Toyota's fuel economy numbers have remained the same, quoted at 25 miles per gallon (9.4 litres per 100 kilometres) on a combined cycle.

The 2023 Highlander with a smaller turbo engine can tow up to 5,000 pounds (2,267 kilograms) and includes Trailer Sway Control to assist keep the trailer in line. A stop/start system is standard equipment to save money on fuel while you're waiting at a red light.

The updated Toyota Highlander will be available at dealers from November 2023.
