Tesla announced its electric Semi, a class 8 truck, back in 2017. It was supposed to debut as soon as 2019 at the time. The vehicle program has been delayed for years and wasn't expected to begin producing until 2023. However, Elon Musk surprisingly announced in August that the Tesla Semi would actually start shipping later this year.
The CEO confirmed today that Tesla has begun production of the electric truck:

Musk clarified that the Semi has a driving range of 500 miles per charge.
In today's tweet, Musk announced that Pepsico would get the first Tesla Semi deliveries on December 1. After Tesla Semi's 2017 launch, PepsiCo ordered 100 electric trucks from Tesla. The company planned to use 15 of those trucks for a project to turn its Frito-Lay Modesto, California, site into a facility that would not produce any emissions.
