The car you see here, with its sloping roofline, may look like a BMW X4. But it's actually the next iteration of the smaller, hatchback-style X2.

A closer look at the car's profile seems to suggest a front-wheel-drive architecture, which is further confirmed by a rear view of the vehicle. Some people say that the X4 is going to be discontinued. If that happens, it might leave room for a redesigned X2 on BMW's showroom floors.

In any event, we anticipate four-cylinder engine choices to be comparable to those of the 2023 BMW X1, and this one was labeled as the higher-spec X2 M35i by spies. If that's the case, a 2.0-liter engine turbocharged to 306 horsepower is most likely lurking behind those camouflage kidneys.

BMW might also release a more powerful M40i version, but we have no concrete evidence of that. However, we can see a sizable rear spoiler and quad exhaust tips at the back. The kidney grilles appear large on the front, let's hope they're not comically so. Additionally, there are large rectangular air intakes below the grilles to allow for more airflow intake.

BMW is rumored to be working on an electrified version of the iX2, which is likely to be released at a later date than the gasoline-fueled X2. According to Autoblog, the updated model will hit the market next year as a 2024 model.
