We already knew that Sony Honda Mobility will begin selling electricity-powered vehicles in 2025 and delivering them in 2026. The collaboration between the two Japanese firms was made public earlier this year, and while we don't know much about the vehicle yet, the companies have stated that future EVs would be designed with a focus on their use as entertainment places. Such as providing music and games, in addition to offering traditional elements of transport, such as driving performance and safety.
"The first delivery is expected to be in North America in the spring of 2026. In Japan, delivery is planned to begin in the second half of 2026," Yasuhide Mizuno, chairman of the joint venture, Sony Honda Mobility, said at a news conference on Thursday, adding that the cars will be made at a Honda plant in North America.
The company is also thinking about expanding into the European market.
The joint venture will focus on online sales, as it aims to "connect directly with customers," Mizuno said. The vehicles will be priced at "a reasonable amount," appropriate to "added high-value" components such as software, although he declined to comment on specific price range or production plans.
What will Sony Honda Mobility's first product (above) look like, compared to the Vision-S 01 and Vision-S 02 concepts we've seen previously at CES? Will they get another names? Will it have greater self-driving technology than competitors such as Tesla or General Motors?Only time will tell, but we eagerly await the answers to these questions.
