For the first time, Apple Music's Spatial Audio with support for Dolby Atmos is available as a native experience in Mercedes-Benz vehicles. But it is not cheap and available for a limited number of models.

Apple has just announced a new way to listen to music in Spatial Audio: in a car. With support for Dolby Atmos, this audio format from Apple creates an immersive and appealing surround-sound effect that works with music tracks, movie soundtracks, and more--all accessible through Apple Music.

If you want to experience Spatial Audio, you can do so on supported content by using an iPhone, iPad, Mac or Apple TV. However, this audio technology has never been available in cars-until now.

At this year's Paris Motor Show, Apple announced that it's now being supported by select Mercedes-Benz vehicles, specifically including the latest Mercedes-Maybach, EQS, EQS SUV, EQE, and S-Class models. More models will follow later, Apple says.

Those first models able to take advantage of Spatial Audio are cars that have the Burmester 3D or 4D sound system. These sound systems can cost more than $4,550, so there's an extra price tag to enjoy Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos. With these kinds of prices, the $9.99 a month Apple Music subscription is perhaps less of a concern.
