Kat DeLorean, the daughter of famed car manufacturer John DeLorean, is continuing her father's legacy by developing an amazing vehicle. What's fascinating is that this new project has no connection to the current company named DeLorean.

The latest announcement comes from a new company called DNG Motors, which stands for DeLorean Next Generation Motors. DNG is a company founded by Kat DeLorean, the daughter of the legendary John Z. DeLorean: the man behind the original DeLorean Motor Company and its sole product, the DMC 12. The new model is to be named "Model - JZD" in honor of John Z. The company claims it will start assembly in January 2023 in Detroit, Michigan. They plan to officially unveil the car "by the end of the year."

Details are currently pretty thin, but DNG Motors states that the team will feature "some of the top automotive minds in the industry, along with a portion of the original team that helped create the first iconic DeLorean more than 40 years ago". Besides building cars and creating jobs, the company plans to launch new engineering programs to benefit public high school students, and forge partnerships with other manufacturers to help meet challenges faced by the industry.

It's important to remember that the DeLorean Motor Company still exists today. However, it is not the same company as the one John DeLorean started in 1975. That company went bankrupt in 1982. The new group running operations is a Texas-based firm that has acquired all of the relevant trademarks for the retro sportscar. They provide support and service center for DMC-12 units still on the road.

Earlier this year, the DeLorean Motor Company based in Texas released its own reinvention of the DeLorean DMC-12. They are calling it the Alpha 5 and plan to have it available for purchase "sometime in 2024."
