As Jeep looks to expand its electric lineup, the automaker is now turning to the public for help in naming its new all-electric SUV. The automaker is calling this new SUV the Wagoneer S for speed.

The new, smaller member of the Jeep Wagoneer family needs a name. It is an electric midsize SUV that is coming in 2024 to join the Wagoneer family which currently consists of the Jeep Wagoneer and the Jeep Grand Wagoneer, both of which are fullsize SUVs.

Jeep has codenamed the EV the Wagoneer "S" for speed because its 600 horsepower can propel it to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds. The Wagoneer S will go on sale as a 2025 model to compete against the Land Rover Ranger Rover Sport. The electric SUV will be able to drive for approximately 400 miles before needing a charge.

"We have not decided the name," Jeep brand CEO Christian Meunier tells MotorTrend in an interview. "We have a few in the basket."

Jeep plans to hold a sweepstake on social media in order to come up with a new name for their product. Car company will give some initial suggestions and direction, but not reveal everything in advance. The goal is that this exercise will encourage the creativity of Jeep fans and result in a great name.

Meunier said he would like to decide on a name by the end of the year so that they can start the reservation process next year. Jeep is planning to launch a contest online in the next month. They will need to review the entries and pick a shortlist of finalists. However, they won't be able to confirm the exact timing until they check trademarks.

The Wagoneer S is one of four new fully electric Jeeps that will be available in North America by the end of 2025. Meunier said that the concept is almost final design and essentially ready for production, so what you see is what you will get.
