Tesla announced that it will be assisting Chinese police with their investigation of a severe accident that occurred involving one of its Model Y crossovers. According to local reports, on November 5th in the southern province of Guangdong, two people lost their lives and three were injured when the driver allegedly lost control of the electric vehicle.

"Police are currently seeking a third party appraisal agency to identify the truth behind this accident and we will actively provide any necessary assistance," Tesla told Reuters in a statement, warning against believing "rumors."

The incident on Nov. 5 in the southern province of Guangdong killed a motorcyclist and a high school girl. Video of the accident has been one of the top trending topics on the social media platform Weibo.

The driver appears to try to avoid motorcyclists on the street, but as it continues to accelerate, it clips a cyclist and runs into other vehicles. Finally, it crashes violently into a building.

Jimu News quoted traffic police as saying the cause of the incident in Chaozhou city had not been identified and an unnamed family member of the driver who said the 55-year-old had issues with the brake pedal when he was about to pull over in front of his family store.
