Armormax, a South African company, creates the world's first armored Jaguar I-Pace. Its protection material is reportedly the lightest in the world and high-grade ballistic glass is used throughout.

Most people likely picture large SUVs or the presidential "Beast" limo when they think of armored cars. Yet, as the auto industry transitions to electric vehicles, we will begin to see more armored EVs on the road. A South African company has already released the first armored Jaguar I-Pace and is ahead of the game in this area.

The I-Pace from Armormax features in-house materials that the company says are the lightest and most protective in the world. The I-Pace has a B4 ballistic protection rating, which shields against handguns up to .44 Magnum caliber and shotguns. In addition, run-flat tires and an external intercom system have been added for extra safety measures.

Armormax worked with Jaguar South Africa to produce the armored I-Pace, so the additional protection does not void or change the warranty. If Armormax does offer the I-Pace outside of South Africa, it probably won't be cheap. In the U.S., the I-Pace starts at over $71,000 before buyers add any of Armormax's upgrades.
