Opel revealed the first images and some specs of the new Astra Electric. The new model will come in hatchback and wagon body styles, similar to the Peugeot e-308 that was unveiled in September.

The new electric Astra looks very similar to its gasoline and diesel counterparts because it is based on a same platform developed for ICE-powered cars.

The silent Astra comes with a single electric motor in the front-wheel drive, 156 horsepower (115 kilowatts), and 270 Nm torque (199 lb-ft). This car surprisingly has more torque (10 Newton-meters) than the Peugeot e-308. The top speed of the hatchback and station wagon is limited to 170 km/h (106 mph).

The electric Astra can travel 416 kilometers (258 miles) on a full charge, while the E-308 is only rated at 400 km (248.5 miles), under the same WLTP cycle. Both models have a 54-kWh battery pack with 51 kWh being usable capacity. When charged from a 100kW DC station, it takes about half an hour to reach 80 percent of the battery capacity. The batteries are housed in the underbodyю

The Astra Electric will be available to order starting in spring 2023.
