The new car will be the first all-new MX-5 since 2015 and its appearance is likely to take inspiration from the striking Vision Study concept Mazda showed last week.

Which Car says it was "tipped" that the next MX-5 would arrive in 2026 and at the moment Mazda is "exploring ways to electrify" the roadster.

Recently, Mazda revealed its plans to make the switch to BEVs by 2030. A key part of the plan is to showcase a new hybrid powertrain by 2025. Considering that, it seems more likely that the next Mazda MX-5 will be a hybrid instead of a BEV.

The Mazda Vision Study concept car hinted at what the next MX-5 might look like. Even though it is a coupe, we think that it wouldn't be difficult for Mazda to turn it into a convertible easily.

Mazda MX-5 is one of the most iconic Mazda models, having been in production since 1989. The lightweight two-seater roadster has gone through four generations to date, and is renowned for its nimble handling and affordability. This combination has made it a popular choice among sport car enthusiasts around the world. We can only wait with anticipation to see what Mazda's engineers have in store for us when they unveil the fifth-generation MX-5.
