McGyver's army is back in business. This time Ukrainian military innovators transformed a civilian Ford F-150 into a deadly combat vehicle with an unguided rocket launching system.

The Ford F-150 has a rear mounted launcher which can fire 12 Soviet C-8 missiles. These are 80 mm (3.1 inch) rockets that are commonly used by fighter-bombers and helicopters.

The system entered service in 1984 and is produced in a variety of subtypes with different warheads, including HEAT anti-armor, high-explosive fragmentation, smoke, and incendiary, as well as the specialized S-8BM runway-destroying munition and the S-8DM fuel-air explosive variants.

A video that has been making its rounds on social media claims that the Ukrainian military is using S-8KO missiles with shaped charge (HEAT) warhead. These missiles weigh in at 11.3 kg (24.9 lb) each. When launched from an aircraft, they have a range of up to 4 km. However, when launched from a stationary ground object, like the Ford F-150 Raptor shown here, their range is lessened.

Western military analysts call the Ukrainian army "the army of MacGyver" because they are so skilled in adapting to combat conditions and finding innovative solutions, even when they don't have access to traditional weapons. MacGyver was a 1980s American TV show whose title character was a resourceful practical problem solver.
