In a new marketing campaign in the United Kingdom, Hyundai is attempting to change the pronunciation of the brand name from "Hy-un-dai" to "Hyun-day," which the company asserts is the global pronunciation and more accurately reflects the Korean heritage of the brand.

The new multi-channel advertising campaign includes a commercial featuring the Ioniq 5 electric crossover that showcases fictional small businesses with similar pronunciations to the intended brand name pronunciation, such as the "High 'n' Dye" hair salon and the "High End Pie" bakery.

The advert includes the words: “if you thought you knew our cars and how to say our name, maybe it’s time to think again.” It’s the key takeaway in a campaign that aims to shift the perception of the Hyundai brand, supported by its multi-award-winning product line-up and customer service.

According to Ashley Andrew, Hyundai Motor UK Managing Director, the campaign aims to "inject a little humour and personality" into the brand and encourage more people to learn about Hyundai.
