General Motors' Design Center is known for sharing design concepts that are not always destined to become production models. The latest concept to catch our attention is a sleek, convertible sports car that has not been in the automaker's lineup for over a decade. This is, of course, a reference to the Cadillac XLR, a Chevrolet Corvette C6-based sports coupe produced from 2004 to 2009. It was the last open-top Cadillac offered by the brand. However, it is highly unlikely that this new rendering will be a direct successor to the XLR, if it is even produced at all.

The sketch of the convertible sports car was posted on the official Instagram account of GM Design Center by someone using the handle @BBKIL (the profile was empty upon inspection). The caption accompanying the sketch read: "We're dreaming of sunny days and open top cars here in MI thanks to this minty sketch by @BBKIL, GM Design wishes everyone a happy and safe holiday season!"
The rear quarter view of the roadster in the sketch incorporates Cadillac's current design language, particularly in the vertical taillights seen on the Lyriq and Celestiq electric vehicles. The rest of the car features a slim and attractive design.
As mentioned, it is unlikely that this concept will become a production model or a direct successor to the XLR, especially given Cadillac's focus on electrification. However, Cadillac dealers have expressed interest in an open-top model, with the National Dealer Council Chairman for Cadillac, David Butler, previously stating that a convertible would be a welcome addition to the brand's lineup.
