Although the Corvette Z06 is still relatively new, Chevrolet has not forgotten about the base model Stingray. In fact, a prototype of the Stingray has recently been spotted being tested on public roads. At first glance, the C8 prototype appears to be just like any other Corvette, but a closer look at the rear reveals something different.

As can be seen in the spy photos, the Corvette Stingray has a pair of narrow, long exhausts rather than the quad-exhaust usually found on a standard C8. This has led to speculation that Chevrolet is testing a powertrain update for the C8.

According to Motor1 sources and industry rumors, the Stingray will receive a power boost in its next update. The unusual exhaust tips are reportedly EPA certification pipes, which could be used to test the powertrain revisions. While the extent of the changes to increase the Stingray's power is currently unknown, it has been suggested that the boost could bring the output to over 500 horsepower, up from the current 495 horsepower (364 kW) rating when equipped with the optional dual-mode performance exhaust system.

It is expected that the powertrain revision will be applied to the 2024 model year, with an official debut in the first quarter of 2024. We will continue to monitor developments and provide updates as more information becomes available.
