The Korea Fair Trade Commission (KFTC) stated that Tesla had misled customers about the driving range, fuel efficiency, and performance of its Superchargers on its official website from August 2019 until recently. In cold weather, the driving range of Tesla cars can decrease by as much as 50.5% compared to the range advertised online, according to the KFTC.
Citizens United for Consumer Sovereignty, a South Korean consumer group, reported in 2021 that the driving range of most EVs drops by up to 40% in cold temperatures when batteries need to be heated, with Tesla experiencing the largest decrease. In 2020, the KFTC fined Mercedes-Benz and its Korean unit $18.2 million for false advertising related to the gas emissions of its diesel passenger vehicles.
