Ford announced on Tuesday that its F-Series lineup was once again the best-selling truck in the United States for the 46th year in a row, with more than 640,000 units sold.

The F-Series also took the title of best-selling vehicle in the U.S. for the 41st year, beating out Chevrolet and GMC when counted separately (but not together). The F-Series includes not only the popular F-150, but also Super Duty models up to the F-550. Ford will release final year-end sales figures on Thursday.

To put 640,000 sales in perspective, around 15 million vehicles were sold in the U.S. in 2021. The F-Series accounted for approximately 4% of those sales, meaning that one out of every 25 vehicles sold was an F-Series pickup. In terms of time, Ford sold an F-Series truck every 49 seconds. Or, if you prefer distance, the conga line of F-Series trucks bumper-to-bumper would stretch 2,400 miles from Los Angeles to Detroit.

While 2021 was not the best year ever for Ford's pickups due to supply chain issues, the company did sell more than 726,000 trucks in 2021 and 909,330 in 2018. The record for F-Series truck sales was set in 2004, with more than 930,000 sold. The F-Series is also celebrating its 75th anniversary this year, having spent nearly two-thirds of its life as the top-selling pickup truck in the U.S. and more than half as the best-selling vehicle overall.
