Aska has brought a functional eVTOL prototype called the A5 to CES 2023. The A5 is a drive-and-fly vehicle that can take off and land vertically using its tilt-rotor propellers. It also has moving wings and can ascend like a conventional airplane.
The A5 is powered by a gasoline engine that serves as a range extender, allowing it to fly for up to 250 miles. Aska claims that the A5 is the world's first eVTOL vehicle and plans to start production in 2026, subject to FAA certification.
The A5 has a sleek interior that can comfortably seat four passengers and a digital cockpit with a Tesla-style steering wheel. In the event of an engine failure, the wing can act as a backup to glide the vehicle back to the ground, and a parachute is also provided as a last resort.
The A5 has already been accepted for certification by the FAA and will undergo flight testing following its debut at CES 2023. To fly the A5, a pilot's license will be required.
