Electric vehicle charging network provider, EVgo, has teamed up with Amazon to offer drivers the ability to locate and pay for charging stations using Alexa. This partnership marks the first time Amazon has worked with a charging network to enable a voice-initiated charging and payment experience.

With this partnership, EV drivers will now be able to use the virtual assistant Alexa to locate and pay for charging stations. By simply saying, "Alexa, find an EV charging station near me," drivers can easily locate and navigate to a public charging spot. The companies plan to expand this functionality to Alexa-enabled vehicles and automotive accessories like Echo Auto later in the year.

With Alexa's EV charging service, drivers with Alexa-enabled vehicles and automotive accessories like Echo Auto will have access to over 150,000 public charging stations in the US, powered by EVgo and other operators. When a driver uses Alexa to search for a station, they will receive a list of nearby options along with information on plug type availability, arrival time, and distance. Drivers can then use Alexa for navigational assistance to reach their chosen station.

“At EVgo, we’re committed to making EV driving infrastructure convenient, reliable, and affordable for all types of drivers,” said Cathy Zoi, EVgo’s CEO. “Mass adoption of EVs is underway, and this collaboration between EVgo and Amazon will make charging seamless for even more EV drivers.”

Currently, EVgo operates over 850 fast charging stations across the United States and has plans to expand. In June, the company announced a partnership with General Motors to build over 3,250 additional fast chargers in the country by 2025.
