Photographers recently captured images of an X5 prototype in California, and a video from the KindelAuto YouTube channel offers a closer look at the hybrid SUV. The vehicle appears to be finished in grey and features minimal camouflage, with the front fascia and taillights both partially covered. It is expected that the X5 will receive redesigned headlights and kidney grilles, as well as updates to the rear fascia and taillight graphics.
One of the biggest updates to the refreshed X5 is expected to be the dual-screen dashboard, which can be seen in the video at the top of this page. BMW has been using this design for several years, and it is now a standard feature in most of the brand's models. The addition of the iDrive 8 infotainment technology is another significant upgrade for the mid-cycle refresh of the SUV. It's worth noting that BMW recently introduced the iDrive 9 and plans to release it in the near future.
It's important to note that this prototype appears to be a hybrid, as indicated by the "Hybrid Test Vehicle" stickers on the rear of the vehicle. BMW is reportedly developing a revised hybrid powertrain that will replace the X5 xDrive45e in the lineup. According to available information, the new hybrid will combine a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine with an electric motor to produce a maximum output of 389 horsepower (290 kilowatts) and 443 pound-feet (600 Newton-meters) of torque.
There is currently no official information available regarding the release date of the refreshed X5. While some sources suggest it may debut next month, this has not been confirmed. However, it is expected that the updated SUV will go on sale in the United States later in the year as a 2024 model.
