Sweden has announced it will provide Ukraine with military support, including 50 CV90 infantry fighting vehicles, 12 Archer artillery systems and NLAW anti-tank missiles, according to Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson.
He stated at a press conference that his government had agreed on a three-part package to aid Ukraine, with the first decision being the initiation of deliveries of the Archer system. Kristersson emphasized the importance of military support, stating it can "change who retakes the initiative this winter" on the front in Ukraine.
The news of the CV90 vehicles being included in the package came as a surprise. The CV90, developed by FMV, Hägglunds (BAE Systems Hägglunds) and Bofors in the mid-1980s, is a modern and combat-proven vehicle, with over 1,300 in 15 variants sold to seven nations, including four NATO allies. The CV90 is currently in use by Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, and The Netherlands.
