Lexus has announced that its first electric vehicle (EV) to be sold in America, the Lexus RZ, will feature an innovative cabin heating system utilizing infrared technology.

According to the brand's Australian subsidiary, the EV will have two panels that heat only solid objects in their line of sight, providing efficient warmth for front-row occupants while also reducing energy consumption by up to 8%. This not only improves the occupants' comfort but also extends the RZ's range by minimizing the impact of the ventilation system on the vehicle's energy reserves.

The system, called Radiant Heating, is controlled by touching the panel, and can be adjusted to around 43 degrees Celsius (109.4 degrees Fahrenheit).

Radiant Heating, seat heaters and heated steering wheel will be offered when RZ goes on sale in Australia around mid-year. Lexus will confirm on which grade, together with additional specification and pricing, closer to the on-sale date. Hopefully, this clever innovation will be made available in the another markets too.
