Suzuki has announced a significant new strategy for full electrification on global markets, revealing plans to launch five battery-powered models in Europe by the end of the decade.

The first of these models is set to arrive next year, with the company expecting around 80% of its European sales in 2030 to come from electric vehicles. In addition to this, Suzuki will introduce six electric vehicles in its domestic market by 2030, with 20% of its sales in Japan forecasted to come from BEVs. India will also receive six electric models over the next seven years, accounting for around 15% of the brand's sales in the country.

As part of this plan, Suzuki has also teased an electric version of its popular Jimny model, though no further details have been released about the car.

Suzuki will invest a total of 2 trillion Yen ($15 billion) in research and development of new products, including sectors outside of the automotive industry such as motorcycles and outboard motors. A further 2.5 trillion Yen ($19.2 billion) will be invested in the construction of a battery plant for electric vehicles and renewable energy facilities.

The company's ultimate goal is to become completely carbon neutral starting with all its domestic plants in 2035, with the Hamamatsu plant set to achieve this target in 2027. Europe is aiming for carbon neutrality by the middle of the century, and India's plan is for 2070.
