Designed by Rotterdam-based architecture firm wUrck, the first parking structure, Stationsplein, is located over 9m (30ft) below the Open Havenfront and is accessible by moving and stationary walkways from street level. The facility, which was officially opened on January 25 by Minister for the Environment Vivianne Heijnen, can hold up to 7,000 bicycles, making it Amsterdam's largest bike parking space. The interior boasts a water-themed design with ample light.

A second 4,000-spot parking facility located at IJboulevard will open next month. The city plans to remove on-street bike racks in the coming weeks to improve the area's aesthetics.
The underground bicycle parking garages are part of a broader renovation project in the city. The goal is to clear up street space and make the area near the Central Station more pedestrian-friendly.
