Nissan and Hitachi subsidiary, have teamed up to provide a unique solution for blackouts. The duo plans to use electric vehicle (EV) batteries to power elevators during power disruptions.

Nissan and Hitachi Building Systems are exploring ways to keep elevators functioning during power outages by harnessing the power of EV batteries.

The companies successfully kept an elevator running at a slow speed for 10 hours using the battery from Nissan's fully electric micro car, the Sakura. The V2X system uses the CHAdeMO charging standard supported by Nissan, which also allows it to draw power from larger Nissan EVs like the Ariya and Leaf models.

Tatsunori Takahashi, a director at Hitachi Building Systems, expressed his hopes of starting to offer the system to apartment buildings starting from April of the next fiscal year. He said, "We hope to start providing the system to apartment buildings from the financial year starting in April."
