Ford is recalling nearly 383,000 SUVs due to a problem with the rearview camera system. The affected models are the 2020 - 2023 Ford Explorer, as well as the upmarket 2020 - 2022 Lincoln Corsair and 2020 - 2023 Aviator. According to documents from NHTSA, customers have filed 2,115 warranty reports and 17 "minor accidents" have occurred due to the issue.

Notification letters for the recall will be sent on February 20, 2023. Owners must bring their vehicles to a dealership where they will update the image processing module (IPMB) software for free. The number for this recall is 23S02.

The faulty camera is only found in units equipped with the 360-degree version; those with regular rearview cameras do not form part of this recall. Of those affected, 279,700 are Explorers, followed by 72,699 Aviators and 30,360 Corsairs.

Last year saw Ford suffer 65 recalls affecting 8.6 million US vehicles - including 252,936 Explorers related to driveshafts/half shafts issues and 550,000 F-150s linked to defective wiper motors impacting Navigator and Expedition models too.
