Audi is reportedly gearing up to bring its Grandsphere concept car to the production line as the next-generation A8. The luxurious sedan set to hit showrooms in a couple of years will come equipped with an electric drivetrain, as well as an array of tech features and a spacious interior.

The exterior design of the A8 will be heavily inspired by the GrandSphere concept car, while it remains to be seen just how many of its innovative interior details will make it into production. Audi’s technical development head Oliver Hoffmann has previously revealed that the concept was designed from the inside out, with Level 4 autonomous technology in mind.

It's too early to tell exactly what the next-generation A8 will be powered by, but the sedan will exclusively be available with an electric drivetrain; the PPE platform isn't compatible with a gasoline-powered engine. For context, the concept unveiled in 2021 (pictured) used a pair of electric motors (one per axle) rated at 710 horsepower and 708 pound-feet of torque. They were linked to a massive, 120-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack that stores enough electricity for a driving range of up to 466 miles. Audi quoted a 0-to-60-mph time of about 4 seconds.
