The Ariya has been modified by Nissan design and engineering teams and Arctic Trucks, specialists in polar expedition vehicles, to enable it to handle the challenging terrains and environments it will encounter during the expedition.
Chris Ramsey, the leader of the Pole to Pole EV Expedition, said: “We take a standard production EV and aim to make minimal changes to demonstrate its real, everyday capabilities, regardless of where you are driving it. Our Nissan Ariya is no different.” The car’s battery and drivetrain have been left unchanged, while the suspension and wheel arches have been modified to accommodate 39-inch BF Goodrich tires. The car will also be equipped with e-4ORCE, Nissan's advanced electric all-wheel-control technology.
Adventure-ready Nissan Ariya
Chris will have access to a coffee machine and a drone to document the journey. Julie Ramsey, the co-driver, said: “The planning and preparation for Pole to Pole has been such a big part of our lives over the past four years so I am really looking forward to getting the expedition underway in March. We’re going to discover so many interesting initiatives from communities and individuals who are taking positive action against climate change and I’m looking forward to sharing these experiences and stories with everyone."
This expedition aims to showcase the capabilities of electric vehicles and highlight positive actions against the climate crisis. The team will be using a portable, renewable energy unit to charge the Ariya during their rest stops. The unit includes a packable wind turbine and solar panels that will provide energy to the vehicle's battery.
