The Mercedes‑Maybach brand is renowned for its luxury and exquisite designs, a tradition that dates back to the automotive pioneers Wilhelm and Karl Maybach starting their own company in 1921. Since its market launch in 2021, the current Mercedes‑Maybach S‑Class has seen growing demand and with their first plug-in hybrid model, they are taking this experience of luxury to the next level.

First Steps into Electric Future

Daniel Lescow, Head of Mercedes‑Maybach at Mercedes‑Benz Group AG stated: "With our first plug-in hybrid model, we are combining the luxury experience typical of Maybach with emission-free local driving when in electric driving mode. The Mercedes‑Maybach S 580 e represents a pivotal step in the transformation of our heritage brand into an electric future. We will present our first fully electric model as early as 2023."

Engine and Driving Performance

At the core of this hybrid drive is a highly efficient 271 kW/367 hp inline six-cylinder engine from the latest generation of petrol engines. With combined system output of 375 kW/510 hp and maximum torque of 750 Nm, superior performance is guaranteed. The electric motor adds an extra dimension by providing immediate 440 Nm torque available right from its start to ensure rapid acceleration and dynamic handling - propelling it from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.1 seconds.

Charging Capabilities

An 11 kW charger comes standard for three-phase charging from AC mains while drivers can also opt for a 60 kW DC charger which provides fast charging via direct current. This allows a full charge within half an hour even when the battery is almost empty.
