The latest US-spec form of the all-new Subaru Crosstrek is finally here. We already knew that it would come with advanced technology and enhanced safety features, but now we get to see what lies beneath the hood as well.

The styling of the updated Crosstrek follows a trend at Subaru of gradual changes instead of drastic makeovers. It keeps its original silhouette, adding smaller headlights and a wider nose. Measuring 176.4 inches (4,480mm) long or about .6 inches (15mm) longer than its predecessor, the design also uses more dark plastics - particularly on the front fascia - which resemble those found on the new WRX model. Furthermore, Subaru claims that its chassis is now 10 percent stiffer and has adopted an electronic steering rack taken from the WRX too.

Underneath the bonnet of the 2024 Subaru Crosstrek you can expect to find two powertrains the same as in past models: a 2.0-liter flat-four engine producing 152 hp (113 kW), and a 2.5-liter offering providing 182 hp (135 kW). The Lineatronic CVT gearbox transmits power to each wheel for all variants of this car; manual transmissions are now no longer available so everyone gets Subaru's EyeSight driver aid suite (which wasn't provided previously on manual models).

On entry level Crosstreks buyers will find a 7-inch infotainment system which has been carried over from previous versions while an 11.6 inch portrait based system is also offered as an alternative option. Besides extra accessories available for customization there seems to be little advancement in off-road or power upgrades though. The base MSRP for the Crosstrek starts at $26,290 with destination and climbs to $32,190 for the top-end Limited trim.

For the first time, Crosstrek production will occur in the U.S. The 2.5-liter Sport and Limited will be produced at Subaru of Indiana Automotive in Lafayette, Indiana and will begin arriving at Subaru retailers this summer. Production of the 2.0-liter Base and Premium will continue at the Subaru plant in Gunma, Japan and will be available at Subaru retailers this spring.
