Lucid Motors is sparking a price war within the electric vehicle (EV) market, offering buyers an enticing $7,500 "credit" when they purchase certain new Air Touring or Air Grand Touring models by March 31. This promotion comes in response to the fact that its sedan does not meet the price cutoff for federal EV tax credits. Furthermore, this move follows similar discounts from the market leader Tesla and other EV car makers.

“We think our customers still deserve a $7,500 credit for choosing an EV," said Zak Edson, Lucid's VP of sales and service. "Lucid Air owners have told us how much they love this car – from the world-class driving experience to the elegant design and spacious interior. We hope this limited time offer will get even more people behind the wheel so they can experience it for themselves."

Tesla recently declared plans to lower vehicle prices across America by up to $13k, taking advantage of economies of scale produced through increased production capabilities. This put pressure on startup companies like Lucid which see higher production costs on their EVs.

Lucid has been offering various deals since late 2022 through its Financial Services platform, including reductions up to $7,500 for lessees or up to $18k off reserved builds that were never ordered. The media also reported that Lucid staff contacted customers as many as fourteen times in December 2020 in a bid to seal sales despite low demand for their inaugural model - the Lucid Air.

This luxury vehicle contains a powerful engine able to generate 629 brake horsepower with an impressive 684 km (425 mi) range per charge plus a luxurious interior and an eye-catching exterior design. However it is priced well past the U.S requirement for federal incentives on electric sedans ($55k) and SUVs ($80k).
