A spy photographer in a snowy region spotted the new Volkswagen Passat B9 wagon test vehicle, showcasing a mean look with dark window tint on a white wagon. The prototype appears to be longer, wider, and with a stretched wheelbase.

Although the car is still sporting the hide-in-plain-sight stickers to make it look like the current model, the dark window tint on the white wagon, which always looks good, adds to the test vehicle's mean appearance. The next-gen model will come with a new thin grille, similar to the VW Golf, that spans the lenses and a large lower grille with the corners curled upward. The narrow headlights will not be wholly connected by the grille, as depicted in the photos. It is said that the vehicle will have a sleek, sporty look with handsome proportions.

VW plans to phase out gasoline and diesel engines and is pushing towards electrification. Underneath the stretched skin, there could be a plug-in hybrid powertrain, which pairs a 1.5-liter engine with an electric motor and a large battery. If rumors are to be believed, the Passat estate could have an electric-only range of 100 km (62 miles). However, this is still unconfirmed at this time.

The Passat sedan is gone, leaving just the wagon to carry the Passat legacy, but only outside of North America where the model is no longer offered. A full debut of the Volkswagen Passat wagon is expected by the end of this year.
