Under the hood of the BMW 128ti, a 2.0-litre engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology delivers 195 kW (265hp). The car's sporty features mark the revival of an old BMW tradition, with the abbreviation "TI" standing for "Turismo Internazionale," a hallmark of especially sporty models. The BMW 128ti compact sports car is the first BMW model to mark the production of Leipzig's 3,333,333rd vehicle.
The first special milestone car made at the BMW Group Plant Leipzig was a BMW 320i in March 2005, followed by a BMW 116d in Alpine White in December 2011, which was the one-millionth car produced at the plant. In October 2016, the plant produced its two-millionth car, a BMW i3 in Protonic Blue. In 2021, the three-millionth car produced at the plant was a BMW M240i Convertible in Sunset Orange.

The next milestone vehicle produced at the plant will be the 4,000,000th vehicle, which will either be a BMW or a MINI. This is due to the addition of the new MINI Countryman, which will make the Leipzig plant the first BMW Group plant worldwide to manufacture both BMW and MINI vehicles. The plant's product portfolio will soon include four different models, all of which will be made on a single production line with a choice of three different types of drive: combustion engine, plug-in hybrid, and fully electric.
The production capacity of the BMW Group Plant Leipzig has steadily increased since it began production 18 years ago. In its first year of production, the plant produced approximately 54,000 cars a year, but it can now produce up to 350,000 cars a year.
