JMC Teshun has launched an electric version of the classic Ford Transit van, now known as Teshun Touring EV, which retains most of the original 1980s design with some new features. The vehicle has a 65 kWh battery pack and an electric motor, providing a range of up to 186 miles and takes 40 minutes to charge to 80 percent.

JMC Teshun, the Chinese automaker, has unveiled an electric version of the classic Ford Transit van, named the Teshun Touring EV. The vehicle retains most of the original design of the 1980s model with a few modifications to its front fascia and interior. The most prominent feature of the new design is a Storm Trooper-like face with a plasticky grille and sweptback headlights. The taillights are from the facelifted model.

The Teshun Touring EV features a 65 kWh battery pack, providing electric energy for up to 300 kilometers (186 miles)  of range measured by China’s CLTC cycle. JMC also lists a range of 500 km (310 miles) “under constant speed”. The electric motor on the front wheels provides 163 horsepower (120 kilowatts) and 320 Newton-meters (236 pound-feet) of torque. The automaker claims a charge to 80 percent takes 40 minutes, although it is unclear at what percentage this charge begins. The van can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmh (62 mph) in about 15 seconds.

JMC claims that the Teshun Touring EV has a “reasonable space layout” with a flexible 7 to 11 cubic meter (247 to 388 cubic feet) loading space. However, the maximum payload for the vehicle is unknown.

The JMC Teshun was given a facelift in 2021, receiving a more modern front fascia. In addition to the electric version, the van is also sold with a 2.8-liter turbodiesel engine that generates 122 horsepower (91 kW). Previously, a 2.4-liter gas engine was available, but it was discontinued in favor of the battery-powered model.

The Teshun Touring EV is expected to be a popular choice in China, with its combination of classic design and modern technology. The vehicle's price has not yet been announced, and there is no information regarding its availability in other markets.
