BMW has unveiled the 2024 X5 and X6 M Competition models, which are set to go into production at the company's plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina, in April 2023. These vehicles feature a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine with a 48-volt mild-hybrid assist, along with other updates that improve performance and fuel efficiency.

The M Competition variants of the 2024 BMW X5 and X6 have been introduced following the debut of the refreshed models in early February 2023. These vehicles will be publicly displayed at the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance after production begins in April 2023. The X5 M Competition is priced at $123,295, while the X6 M Competition costs $128,195 in the US.

The 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine used in the M Competition variants now features a 48-volt mild-hybrid assist, with an electric motor generating 12 horsepower (9 kilowatts) and 147 pound-feet (199 Newton-meters) of torque. This assists with acceleration and fuel efficiency, while the refreshed models continue to produce 617 hp (460 kW) and 553 lb-ft (750 Nm) of torque, the same as the previous models.

To enhance performance, BMW has made various modifications to the V8 engine, including a cross-bank exhaust manifold, reinforced crankshaft drive, and an electrically controlled blow-off valve for the turbos, among other things. The 2024 X5 and X6 M Competition models can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph (96 kph) in 3.7 seconds, with a top speed of 155 mph (249 kph). The optional M Driver’s Package can increase this to 177 mph (285 kph).

The transmission has also been updated, with shorter gear ratios for the first three gears and a new cast-aluminum oil sump with cooling fins and increased fluid capacity. The M Competition models feature new, slimmer headlights, black kidney grilles, and new exterior colors, including Brooklyn Grey metallic, Isle of Man Green metallic, and Frozen Pure Grey metallic.

Inside, the cabin comes with carbon-fiber trim as standard and the BMW Curved Display, which combines a 12.3-inch information screen and a 14.9-inch control monitor into a single bezel. Buyers can select other options like Fineline Black or Silver Ash Root Open Pore wood.
