The current generation of the Toyota Supra has been a popular sports car for years, but rumors have been circulating for some time about what the future holds for the iconic vehicle. According to BestCarWeb, production of the current Supra will continue until 2025, after which it will be retired with a special GRMN variant that features a twin-turbocharged BMW-sourced 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine producing an impressive 542 horsepower. This version is said to be the last with a combustion engine.
The report suggests that the next generation Supra, which is expected to arrive in showrooms as early as 2026, could be all-electric and retain the current model’s rear-wheel drive layout. It's rumored to be based on an updated version of Toyota's e-TNGA architecture, although very little else is known about the vehicle at this point.
There's still a great deal of mystery surrounding the upcoming Supra, yet when it arrives in showrooms there is potential for strong competition with the electric Alpine sports car being developed. We can safely assume that this incarnation will boast higher horsepower and torque than its predecessor, and likewise more expensive price tag to match.
