MINI partnered with Swiss wheel manufacturer Ronal to develop the innovative wheels. Ronal is known for its eco-friendly wheel production and supplies wheels for both aftermarket and OEMs.
The use of all recycled aluminum has obvious environmental benefits, the most significant of which is the reduction in new aluminum manufacturing. It is also worth noting that this production method reduces carbon emissions by 75%, which is estimated to be about 0.16 kilograms (0.35 pounds) per kilogram (2.2 pounds) of aluminum used.
MINI Cooper SE Convertible wheels made entirely from recycled aluminum
MINI has emphasized that the wheels maintain all the strength of conventional wheels, while being produced in a greener way. Additionally, the wheels themselves are recyclable, meaning they can be used again after their lifecycle in the Mini Cooper SE Convertible is over.
The collaboration between Mini and Ronal marks a significant step forward in the production of environmentally friendly cars. MINI and its parent company BMW are exploring ways to expand the use of recycled aluminum wheels by sourcing suitable recyclable products. While neither company has provided a timeline for the availability of fully recycled wheels, this breakthrough in eco-friendly transportation is sure to inspire more sustainable innovations in the auto industry.
